What Happens If TikTok Gets Banned?
Here are all of the details you need to know as a brand
Hey guys… big news on my mind today. 😅 What if TikTok disappears tomorrow? No more viral vids… no more TikTok Shop… no more creators going from zero to hero overnight. Crazy, right? No more TikTok Shop?
I filmed a video going through the likeliest scenarios that YOU NEED TO KNOW!
So… If TikTok vanishes:
What happens to brands?
What happens to influencers?
What happens to you?
The cultural effect is huge. TikTok is in our pop culture – dance trends, viral challenges. 170 million Americans use it daily… It’s the biggest search engine here. No other platform can do what TikTok does for brands.
For creators, it’s scary.
Small creators rely on TikTok Shop.
It turned side gigs into paying off debts and even mortgages. They built careers there. Without it, they may have to start over on different platforms. Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts… they all have different algorithms.
Brands that relied on TikTok Shop for sales are now facing:
Reduced organic reach.
Higher ad costs on other platforms.
Big shifts in strategy.
Where will everyone go? Attention just shifts:
Instagram Reels is a major move. But its algorithm isn’t anything like TikTok’s magic discovery engine.
YouTube Shorts could be the new revenue spot. But shopping isn’t there yet.
Snapchat, Lemon8, BeReal? Maybe new opportunities, but still no TikTok Shop-like affiliate system.
What should you do if TikTok goes away?
Start building on Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Snapchat. Engage your audience there now.
Own your affiliate audience. Build that email list, SMS, group chats… off-platform like WhatsApp or Discord.
Save your TikTok content. Download it, repurpose it for Reels, Shorts, Pins… one video can go a long ways. Check out Flip
Test out tools like Creator Commerce for influencer pages and affiliate marketing outside TikTok.
TikTok may be king now, but if it goes away, it’s not the end. It’s a big shift, but we can adapt. I've seen many shifts since 2014 – from hoverboards to iOS changes. The ones who adapt fast survive.
Social commerce is not dead. Creators aren’t dead. Brands aren’t dead.
At Social Commerce Club, our creators are ready to pivot onto a new platorm and way of donig social commerce as fast as we are!
But until we know that TikTok is leaving… we will continue to push and scale and keep seeing that insane TikTok shop effect that has built entire brands over the last year!
Also… we wil be opening up a small beta offering to test YouTube Shopping - reply to this email if you are interested and we can chat about what the details of what that beta look like!
