TikTok Shop is now the fastest-growing sales channel in North America. The halo effect we're seeing from TikTok to Amazon and other platforms is staggering—about 50% of sales on TikTok Shop result in sales on Amazon. This makes TikTok Shop a mandatory channel for anyone serious about social commerce. If you aren’t on this wave yet, now is the time.

Steps to Scale on TikTok Shop

  1. Start with Three Main SKUs

    • Test these SKUs and see which ones perform best in terms of CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) and return on ad spend (ROAS).

    • Focus on finding the one SKU that wins and push it to 1,000–5,000 sales before scaling efforts with influencers or paid ads.

  2. Ad Strategy

    • This is an ad game. You need a large amount of creative to test what works.

    • For example, a $150K weekend in sales required 89 pieces of creative (hahah for example).

    • Use ABO (Ad Set Budget Optimization) to test each creative separately. Start at $500/day for each ad set, rather than running all creatives under one CBO (Campaign Budget Optimization) campaign.

  3. Leverage GMV Max Campaigns

    • After testing creatives, move top performers into GMV Max campaigns. This works similarly to Facebook’s old bid cap strategy and helps maximize sales volume once you've found winning creatives.

Influencer Strategy for TikTok Shop

  • Influencers hold all the power right now. You need to position your brand so they want to work with you.

  • Create contests and incentivize influencers or affiliates. For example, affiliates who reach a certain GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) can win prizes like trips or gift cards.

  • It’s all about helping affiliates see how they can make money with your product. Show them how your brand will benefit them.

Live Shopping & Social Commerce

  • Live shopping is huge. It's like QVC for Gen Z and millennials, and it’s driving massive GMV. If you’re not going live, you’re missing a key opportunity.

  • Repurpose your live shopping content into ads and push it on your own channels.

Key Tactics to Win on TikTok Shop

  1. Break-Even ROAS

    • Calculate your break-even return on ad spend. On TikTok Shop, this typically falls around a 2x ROAS, depending on your product. Once you know your break-even, scale aggressively with ads.

  2. Quantity Equals Quality

    • TikTok is a platform where more content means better results. You need to push out a massive amount of creative to find what sticks. The goal is to constantly test and refine your strategy.

  3. Don’t Overlook Small Creators

    • Smaller influencers can still drive significant sales if approached correctly. Focus on content creation for ads if you send out products to smaller creators.

  4. Get Rights for Spark Ads

    • Make sure you have the rights to use your influencer content for spark ads. This is crucial for running ads at scale with influencer-generated content.

  5. Track Progress with SOPs

    • Use Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for every part of the process, from tracking influencer outreach to managing content creation and ad spend. This ensures consistency and scalability across all campaigns.

Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Not Enough Sales Before Reaching Out to Influencers

    • Build GMV under your SKUs before approaching influencers. Creators need to see that your product is moving and that they can make money with it.

  2. Bad Messaging

    • When reaching out to influencers, make them the hero. Focus on how promoting your product benefits them, not just your brand.

  3. Not Enough Content

    • You need a lot of creative to keep scaling. If you think you’re doing enough, 10X it.

Why Most Brands Fail to Scale

Brands that fail usually don’t have enough content or outreach. Scaling on TikTok Shop is about sheer volume—volume of content, volume of outreach, and volume of engagement. You need to flood the platform with content and continually test what works.

Now is the time to strike!
